Hazelhurst Cattery can now offer Microchipping, worming, flea treatment and nail clipping services.
Fleas Fleas are one of the most common parasites caught by pets. It's thought that every cat and dog will suffer an infestation at some point in their lives. Fleas are not just an inconvenience. If the infestation is severe enough, it can cause anaemia or even kill a small puppy or kitten. If you notice your pet scratching or itching you should groom with a fine toothed comb with the pet on a white surface where you may see the black specks appear, if so, it is necessary to have your animal treated, it should have its bedding thoroughly washed and treated with insecticide, and a treatment applied to the pet. An appropriate treatment should be used every 1 - 3 months. We supply and use Frontline.
Worms Pets can also become infected with a wide range of parasitic worms, many of which can be passed to humans, with rare, but potentially serious health consequences. Pets can also carry the Toxocara worm which is a health risk especially to children. All cats and dogs should be treated with a good wormer every 3 - 6 months to keep them free of the various types of worms. We supply and use Panacur.
Nail Clipping Cats and dogs claws grow continually just like peoples nails. Pets that walk on hard surfaces wear them down naturally, but older pets and indoor cats especially need to have their claws trimmed regularly, usually about every 2 - 3 months.
Microchipping The simplest, kindest and easiest method of identifying your pet. The Government is proposing a scheme for every dog, and eventually every cat, to be identified by either a tattoo or microchip. Once a pet is microchipped it is registered on a national database (Petlog) run by the UK Kennel Club which is also used in the Pet Passport scheme. They have one 24/7 telephone number - 0870 6066 751. Once your pet is microchipped the chances of it being re-united with its owner are greatly enhanced. At Hazelhurst we are now trained to implant microchips so we are pleased to be able to offer this service.
We can administer some or all of these services while your cat is staying with us.
